Overview:
Background and project aims: The Davies group has a longstanding interest in the discovery and exploration of efficient new transformations using gold catalysis
About the position:
- This project will explore new hybrid gold –peptide catalysts for effective asymmetric gold catalysis.
- Our goal is to develop more sustainable organic synthesis through the design and study of new catalysts for complex molecular transformations in water.
- We are looking to hire a skilled researcher to develop the synthetic chemistry and catalytic methodology required to establish and explore these new catalyst systems.
- The appointed researcher will be based in the School of Chemistry and will work under the guidance of Dr Paul Davies.
- This project is part of a multidisciplinary project in close collaboration with Dr Anna Peacock (bioinorganic chemistry) and the researcher will work closely with a second postdoctoral researcher to be appointed later in the project.
Eligibility Criteria
- First degree in Chemistry and completion of (or approaching completion of) a PhD in organic synthesis or equivalent qualifications or equivalent post doctoral experience
- Experienced in the development of effective new methodology for organic synthesis
- Experienc in synthetic chemistry, enantioselective and/or transition metal catalysed method development, or mechanistic studies
- Knowledge of supermolecular interactions is desirable
- Fluency in models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones in the fields of transition metal catalysis and asymmetric catalysis/synthesis
