Overview: This project involves the synthesis and study of macrorotaxanes (i.e. [2]rotaxanes-molecular machine prototypes made of a molecular ring threaded onto a polymer chain) at the single molecule level by AFM-based single molecule force spectroscopy. Main aim is to investigate different features of the macrorotaxanes such as binding strength of the macrocycle on its initial station and long-range motion of the macrocycle along polymer threads of different nature and composition. The successful candidate will develop the synthesis of various macrorotaxanes. The work involves aspects of organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and polymer chemistry.

Requirements

1. Have a PhD degree in organic or supramolecular chemistry.
2. Additional knowledge in polymer synthesis is an advantage.
3. Strong synthetic skills are mandatory.

Duration: The contract will run for 6 months.
