The research position (Organic Chemistry) is available to research chemical catalysts and develop procedures to make imines followed by their asymmetric reduction to chiral amines using existing imine reductase bio-catalysts. You will join a major research project funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative that involves collaboration with scientists from industry and academia.
Professor John Blacker (School of Chemistry, School of Chemical and Process Engineering and Institute of Process Research and Development), will be supervised along with co-supervisors Professor Stephen Marsden from the School of Chemistry at the University of Leeds and Professor Nicholas Turner from the School of Chemistry and Centre for Excellence Bio3 at the University of Manchester.
You will have submitted prior to taking up the position, a doctoral in synthetic organic chemistry focused around homogeneous catalysis, and will have a strong interest in pharmaceutical and bio-catalysis processes. You will also have excellent IT and communication skills. Experience in the development, validation of catalytic methodologies and optimization is essential.
