Postdoc in Photocatalysis and Organometallic Qatar 4949 views

A postdoctoral position (fully funded) is available in the area of Photocatalysis in the Department of Material Science and Engineering at Qatar, Environment and Energy Institute (QEERI) at Hammad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Qatar within the research group of Dr. Muhammad Sohail. The project is funded by QNRF for 3 years in collaboration with Prof. Ashfaq at Texas A & M University at Qatar and Prof. Michael Wasielewski at Northwestern University USA.

The project deals with the synthesis of organometallic complexes and spectroscopic investigation of CO₂ conversion catalysis (Photocatalytic CO₂ Reduction by Organometallic Complexes) to gain insights into the active sites and reaction mechanisms. Strong background and interests in synthetic organometallic/ organic chemistry and photochemistry are desired. The spectroscopic investigations of metal-containing solutes in the liquid phase is highly valued.

The aim of the project is to find new efficient molecular catalyst based on transition metals for the reduction of CO2 under photoelectrochemical and photochemical conditions. The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in chemistry with a strong background in ligand synthesis, organometallic chemistry. Experience in photochemistry, the synthesis of light harvesting organic molecules and photoelectrochemistry is an added advantage.

The experience of synthetic chemistry, including organometallic chemistry and manipulation of air-sensitive compounds (e.g. Schlenk-line techniques), in addition to expertise in a range of analytical tools including Infrared, multinuclear NMR, and X-ray diffraction, UV-vis spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry, is essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write for publication in international peer-reviewed scientific journals are expected. An ideal candidate will have experience of developing developing synthetic methodology, new catalytic reactions and have shown a track-record of excellence in their research to date
