Postdoc position in Biology at SLU: The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) develops the understanding and sustainable use and management of biological natural resources. The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment invited application for filling up the following 1 year Researcher position in Microbial mercury transformation. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a recently established competence center for landscape-level processes that also includes the Departments of ‘Soil and Environment’ and ‘Energy and Technology’.

About the Positions: This research’s aim is to study microbial mercury transformation and ability to transform organic mercury species to inorganic forms and in this way enable future bioremediation of contaminated marine sediments. This project is focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as on aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry.

Position: Researchers/Postdoc

Place of posting: Uppsala

Salary: According to agreement.

Duration: Temporary employment 1 year, with possible prolonging

Educational qualifications: Interested and eligible candidates must have PhD in Biology or Environmental Science and solid background and experience of laboratory work with microbial isolation, cultivation and coupled experiments, analysis of mercury transformation rates with stable isotope incubation experiments as well as analysis of microbial communities with modern molecular biology tools.
