Postdoctoral Fellow in Neuroscience at Department: Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen, under supervision of Professors Margaret Veruki and Espen Hartveit.

A full-time temporary position as a Postdoctoral fellow in the field of Neuroscience is available for a period of three years.

Project: “Beyond the synapse: The role of extrasynaptic receptors in a retinal microcircuit”,by Research Council of Norway (NFR).

The overall aim of the project is to

  1. Investigate the dynamics, mechanisms & functional consequences of extrasynaptic glutamatergic neurotransmission within a well-defined retinal microcircuit.
  2. About the structure and function of the nervous system at the cellular and molecular level.

Postdoctoral Fellow

The main objectives for the position:

  1. To engage in independent scientific research that will result in high-quality publications addressing core themes of the research project
  2. To participate in the collection and analysis of data
  3. To support and work with the principal investigator in carrying out the research project
  4. To actively contribute to the academic life in the research group

Techniques / Facilities:

  1. Advanced cellular electrophysiology,
  2. Imaging (including 2-photon imaging, confocal and STED imaging, high-speed optical voltage recording)
  3. Morphological reconstruction of single neurons.

Required Qualifications

  1. The candidate must hold a PhD-degree within the field of Neuroscience, Physiology or other related fields or an equivalent education. Or, the candidate must have submitted his/her doctoral dissertation for evaluation before the closing date of the application. It is a condition for appointment that the dissertation has been approved.
  2. A broad knowledge of neurobiology and synaptic physiology is required.
  3. Extensive experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology and/or advanced microscopy (multiphoton, confocal, STED) is required.
  4. Excellent communication skills and fluency in both written and spoken English are required.
  5. You must be able to work independently, in a structured manner, and interactively in a team setting, be responsible and have a great work capacity.
  6. You must demonstrate a strong commitment for scientific research.
  7. Personal skills will be emphasized.
  8. Prior publication record will be of importance.

  2. Salary level 57 (code 1352/pay framework 24.1) at present NOK 486 100 per year for a full-time position, on the government salary scale. Further promotions are made according to qualifications and length of service in the position.
