The Department of Nanophotonics, Integration, and Neural Technology at Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics led by Director Prof. Joyce Poon, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow (m/f/d) in Brain Tissue Engineering for a project to build circuits out of biological neurons for computation.
Tasks:
- Collaborate with the team to design and build neuronal circuits that perform computations
- Use optogenetics to control neuronal circuits
- Design and make neuronal circuits and tissues using 3D bioprinting and microfluidic technology
- Simulate the neuronal circuits and compare the experiments with simulations
- When applicable, compare neuronal circuits with artificial neural network models
- Train and work closely with other postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff
- Present research results in international scientific journals and conferences
Requirements:
- Applicant must have earned or will soon earn a PhD Degree in Bioengineering, Neurobiology, Applied Physics, or a related discipline
- Applicant must have experience in culturing neurons, transfection, and optogenetics and have experience in evaluating neurons and neural tissue responses using a variety of techniques
- Experience with optical imaging techniques (e.g., 2-photon microscopy) is an asset
- Applicant must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Applications:
Apply online and upload CV, a research statement (2 pages max.), and the names of two references as a single pdf file.
