The Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD) at University of Victoria is inviting applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship (PDF) in the area of decolonizing praxis within post-secondary environments, ideally starting on January 1, 2021. The successful candidate will be a junior scholar possessing a strong background in Indigenous and decolonizing methodologies.
Fellowship value: $50,000 fellowship per year and an additional $5,000 per year in research funds to support activities related to the fellowship
Duration of funding: 2 years
About the position:
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will:
- pursue and nurture relationships and collaborations with local Indigenous communities, knowledge holders, faculty, and students;
- undertake independent research and scholarship on decolonial praxis in HSD, with supervision from Dr. Charlotte Loppie and Dr. Nick Claxton;
- prepare and submit applications for external (e.g. SSHRC or CIHR) post-doctoral funding;
- prepare and submit at least one application for project funding;
- support the development of an undergraduate land-based course pilot;
- co-develop and facilitate an HSD land-based graduate research gathering;
- co-develop and facilitate a land-based decolonizing retreat for HSD faculty and staff.
Requirements:
- Applicant must have completed PhD no more than 3 years before the date of acceptance, with relevant focus on decolonizing praxis.
- Demonstrated scholarly and research record and/or potential.
- Experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities, collectives, organizations and/or Nations.
