Postdoctoral position: Engineering, Materials Science, Physics 1718 views

Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry. The position is for the conceptual design and construction of combined operando X-ray and electron microscope system.

Tasks and responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to independently design and construct a combined operando X-ray and electron microscope system with the focus on heterogeneous catalysis at BESSY II.
  • A suitable transfer system has to be developed, which provides the nanoscopic study with both the X-ray and transmission electron microscope (TEM).
  • The aim is to comparatively investigate the electronic and geometric response to the reactive environment of the identical catalyst particles on a (sub) nano scale inside the X-ray microscope and TEM taking full advantage of both techniques.
Requirements:
  • Applicant must hold PhD in Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics.
  • Applicant MUST HAVE strong proven research background in X-ray and TEM microscopy as well as device design.
  • The applicant is experienced in setting up complex analytical tools beyond the established techniques.
  • Knowledge in heterogeneous catalysis can be advantageous.

Duration: 2 years; possibility of extension

Application:

  • Application to be sent via mail including the following documents:
  • CV
  • List of publications
  • Description of research interest/plan
  • Names and addresses of two referees
  • Applications to be sent to: Dr. Thomas Lunkenbein; Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society; Department of Inorganic Chemistry; Faradayweg 4-6; 14195 Berlin. Email: lunkenbein@fhi-berlin.mpg.de quote the code word “Combined X-ray and TEM microscopy” in the subject heading
