Overview:
We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate for methodology development in the area of mechanistic main group chemistry..
About the position:
- Your key responsibility will be to undertake experimental and theoretical work in the area of main group chemistry and synthetic methodology.
- You will be expected to prepare new molecules, investigate their reactivity and develop a detailed understanding of new chemical reactions that break strong carbon–fluorine bonds (see for example:).
- You will be experienced in mechanistic analysis and computational chemistry (DFT).
- You are expected to take an active role in the mentorship of students, contribute to the safe and efficient running of the lab.
- You will also be expected to take an active role in the management of the data collected in the project. Outcomes from the research will be communicated in internal and external presentation and through publication.
- You will be expected to be able to prepare clear and concise presentations and drafts of manuscripts for publication.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication in international scientific journals.
- You will have experience with synthetic chemistry including organometallic chemistry and air-sensitive methods.
- You will have experience with a range of analytical methods such as multinuclear NMR, infrared and UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry and mass spectrometry.
- Experience using computational methods (DFT) to model organometallic reactions is desired, though not essential
