Postdoctoral Positions in Experimental Biophysics 904 views

The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization invites applications for Postdoctoral Positions (m/f) within a research group working in the field of Experimental Biophysics at the department Dynamics of Complex Fluids headed by Prof. Dr. Stephan Herminghaus.

About the positions:
  • The successful candidates will design and conduct force measurements on living cells.
  • The aim is to understand how flagella functions, e.g. motility and surface adhesion, are regulated by light. In particular, the aim is at capturing the principles of the light-switchable adhesion of photoactive microbes to surfaces – from photoreception, signal transduction to the adhesion-mediating proteins.
  • A highly innovative micropipette force sensor technique and work in close collaboration with experts from biology regarding the genetic and metabolic control of microbial functionalities will be incorporated.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be excellent, enthusiastic and self-motivated researchers with good communication skills to join the research team.
  • Applicants must hold PhD in Physics, Biophysics or related disciplines and a solid background as well as interest in active matter physics and / or biophysics.
  • Expertises regarding experimental techniques and data analysis are required, programming skills (e.g. Matlab) are highly desirable.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English is required; German is an asset.

Application

  • Apply online with the reference no MPIDS-W031 and submit the following:
  • CV
  • Motivation letter
  • List of publications
  • Contacts of two referees
