Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Associate in Micro-Algal Biotechnology. The postdoc will research into the production of terpene molecules as building blocks for a range of commercial important products including antimicrobials, perfumes and antioxidants. This is part of the EU funded ABACUS (Algae for a biomass applied to the production of added value compounds) project.
Salary: £26,829 – £30,175 per annum
Duration: Fixed term; 3 years
About the project:
- to develop micro-algal strains for commercially important products
- conducting fundamental and applied collaborative research on micro-algal cultivation using a bio-refinery approach
- identify the most productive strains and this will be coupled with the improvement of strains through biological engineering
- results will be used to provide licenses of new products based on their cultivation
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline
- Applicants holding Bioprocessing experience would have an advantage.
- Applicant must hold expertise in methods at the cutting edge of micro-algal research.
