A Postdoctoral position in Biological Sciences is available in the laboratory of Miguel Seabra (http://cedoc.unl.pt/molecular-mechanisms-of-disease/), at the CEDOC – Chronic Diseases Research Center (http://cedoc.unl.pt/ ), Nova Medical School, Lisbon, Portugal.
In this work we aim to test new therapeutic approaches for Age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
We hypothesise that AMD has it origin in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) due to chronic dysfunction of the lysosome. Cellular models of AMD will be generated using cell cultures of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and will be tested compounds that could improve lysosomal function.
The results to be obtained in cellular models will guide future tests in animal models. This grant is for 6 months, but could be extended if funding is renewed.
The candidate is expected to be proactive and productive, and should have a PhD in Biological Sciences or related areas. Selection of the candidates will be based on previous experience on cell culture (35%), light microscopy (30%), western-blot and RT-PCR (20%), scientific publications related with the area (10%), motivation letter (5%).
