The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Macquarie University is inviting applications to appoint an energetic and innovative mathematician who has a strong research interest and growing reputation in asymptotic analysis.
The successful candidate will work on the Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant “A new asymptotic toolbox for nonlinear discrete systems and particle chains” and will collaborate with members of Macquarie University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics to advance the scientific program.
Role and responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be expected to make a vigorous contribution in the overall activities of this research project, to present research progress regularly at local and international conferences and to publish papers in well-regarded mathematical journals.
- The appointee may also be asked to assist with the mathematical supervision of PhD research students.
- Applications from candidates with expertise in the areas of asymptotic analysis or lattice or particle systems are particularly encouraged.
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold PhD awarded or submitted, that utilises asymptotic analysis in continuous or discrete settings, or related areas of mathematics
- A demonstrated ability to publish in the scientific literature
- Experience of presenting research results at scientific meetings
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- A background in applications of asymptotic analysis, including but not limited to: exponential asymptotics, analysis of Stokes’ Phenomenon, multiple scales methods, or WKB methods is desirous.
- Experience in computation of solutions to differential or difference equations.
