Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) 1294 views

Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP).

Location: Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Tasks and responsibilities:
  • The selected candidate will be conducting research projects involving viral antigens and candidate viral vaccines.
  • The selected candidate will troubleshoot problems and work independently to formulate questions for new and relevant experimental designs as it pertains to the mission of the Animal Models & Pathogenesis group, the Structural Biology group, and the US MHRP program.
  • The position involves the design, production, immunization and characterization of HIV-1 vaccine candidates in non-human primate models, using state-of-the-art immunological and biochemical techniques.
Requirements:
  • Applicant must have some knowledge of complex scientific procedures and techniques; knowledge and practical experience in biophysical techniques, fundamental immunology and familiarity with infectious disease concepts, biochemistry and purification of proteins, knowledge of HPLC/FPLC purification systems and protocols.
  • Applicants with experience with protein design and immunogen preparation, and immunization studies would have an advantage.
  • Applicant must possess excellent communication skills including the ability to efficiently prepare research papers and grants.
  • Applicant must have strong publication record as evidenced by first-author publications in the HIV-1 field encompassing immunogen characterization and animal immunization projects.
  • Applicant must hold PhD in related scientific discipline with 0-2 years of related post-doctoral research experience.
