Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM) at the National University of Ireland, Galway invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position for 18 months as a Postdoctoral Researcher. The project is Mechanics of Biocompatible Alloys for Medical Device Applications.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Review literature and data bases on alloy mechanical properties
  2. Perform a range of mechanical testing on selected alloys
  3. Perform both macroscale and micromechanical computational modelling on materials and devices
  4. Engage in strong interaction with the industrial partner
  5. Generate reports and publications; make presentations internally and externally; disseminate the outputs of the research interaction through agreed channels.

Essential Criteria

  • Applicant must hold a primary degree and PhD in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Applicant must provide evidence of a strong publication record, and of research dissemination through conference presentations.
  • Applicant must have excellent written and oral, technical and non-technical, communication skills.
  • Applicant must have excellent teamwork skills.
  • Applicant must possess and demonstrate good expertise in computational and experimental methods in the mechanics of materials, and in particular knowledge of the Abaqus finite element software.

Remunerations:

  • €37,750 – €46,255 per annum

Duration: 1st May, 2017 to 30th October, 2018.
