Postdoctoral Researcher: Marine microbiology ecology 965 views

The Clark University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral researcher in Marine microbiology ecology to conduct research on host range, community dynamics, and comparative genomics of marine cyanobacteria (Synechococcus) and their phages (cyanophage) in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island in collaboration with Dr. Marcie Marston (Roger Williams University).

About the project:
  • The project will include isolation, genome sequencing, and analysis of hundreds of cyanobacteria and phage in relation to host range patterns and genetic time-series analysis of their populations.
  • Applicants must have a strong background in bioinformatics and skills in comparative genomics or analysis of amplicon sequence data.
  • Duration: One year with the possibility of renewal for two additional years, subject to satisfactory performance.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biological Oceanography, or related field of relevance to the project.
  • Evidence of previous research experience in microbiology and/or bioinformatics
  • Strong skills in bioinformatics and working with large sets of genomic and/or amplicon sequencing data.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken English
  • Ability to work independently and with a team of faculty (Dr. Ahlgren & Dr. Marston) and graduate and undergraduate researchers
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Interest in improving their skills in teaching and integrating research activities with teaching undergraduate or graduate courses.
  • Experience in isolating and culturing bacteria and/or viruses
