The Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS), Faculty of Science invites applications for a Postdoctoral researcher Plant Biology.
About the project:
- The work is related to identification of metabolic pathways and their transcriptional regulators in wild tomato ancestors, to improve resistance in commercial tomato.
- The aim of this project is to identify the genetic components crucial to “re-arm” cultivated tomato with effective insect-resistance.
- As a postdoctoral researcher candidate will be involved in plant selection, biochemical assays, Illumina-sequencing, gene expression analyses, metabolite profiling and insect assays.
- This project will be executed in close collaboration with the vegetable breeding industry.
Requirements
- Applicant should have a PhD in plant (molecular) biology and preferentially have experience with biochemistry (metabolic analysis), molecular biology, transcriptomics and plant transformation.
- Experience and affinity with bioinformatics and data analysis is highly advised.
- Applicant should have excellent communication skills, be willing to supervise students and be keen to work in collaboration with the industrial partners.
Duration: temporary; three years (initial appointment will be for a period of 12 months and after satisfactory performance evaluation it can be extended).
