The Nanoscale Quantum Photonics Laboratory focuses on exploring the physics underlying the operation of nanoscale photonic devices, with an emphasis on devices that utilize individual single-walled carbon nanotubes.

Overview

Successful applicant is expected to conduct experimental research in the Nanoscale Quantum Photonics Laboratory under the guidance of Dr. Yuichiro Kato. Current research efforts include, but are not limited to, optical properties, exciton physics, and quantum electrodynamic effects in individual carbon nanotubes. Projects will involve fabrication and engineering of nanoscale devices, microspectroscopy and imaging measurements, as well as development of automated data collection and analysis systems.

Required Qualifications

  1. Applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, within five years of the date of appointment.
  2. Written and verbal English proficiency is required. Applicants are expected to have a strong publication record that demonstrates their capability for cutting-edge scientific research.
  3. Extensive experience in nanoscale devices and/or optical spectroscopy is highly preferred.

Salary and benefits

  1. A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum of 5 years.
  2. The employee’s period of fixed-term employment cannot exceed 10 years from the initial date of hire (or 10 years from April 1, 2013 for fixed-term employees already at RIKEN prior to this date).

There will be a trial period of employment (in principle, 2 months).
