University at Buffalo is inviting applications for a position of Research Assistant Professor with a strong microbiology /molecular biology background to join an infectious diseases research group focusing on defining optimal therapeutic regimens to combat resistant bacteria.
About the position:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing in vitro models of bacterial infection, quantifying bacteria, traditional microbiologic experiments including susceptibility testing, resistance testing and other assays including PCR, qPCR, etc.
- Evidence indicating research experience, leadership, and scientific design are required.
- The candidate will be self-motivated, an independent worker, enthusiastic, hard-working, and enjoy working in a fast, high throughput laboratory.
Role and responsibilities:
- Independent design and experimentation of microbiologic experiments including electron microscopy, flow cytometry and molecular biology /genomic experiments.
- Microbiologic Analysis. Analyze changes in susceptibility, biofilm assays, population analysis profiling, resistance testing will be performed. Maintenance of cultures, sub-culturing bacteria will also be performed.
- In Vitro Model Experiments of Bacterial Infection. Setup, daily sampling, and maintenance of these in vitro models is necessary.
- Responsible for appropriate long-term viability and sterility of in vitro models. Media preparation, and antimicrobial stock solution preparation will also be performed. Use and maintenance of automated spiral plater to plate bacteria.
- Genetic Experiments. DNA isolation, RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, genomics /bacterial gene expression analysis in response to antimicrobial therapy.
- Other Duties. Manuscript writing and grant preparation involvement.
