Research Assistant in Mechanical Engineering Sciences 1034 views

Applications are invited for a short-term research position starting on June 1, 2020 to develop advanced controllers for next generation electric vehicles.

The post is part of a collaborative project that aims to develop new energy management controllers for fully electric vehicles.

A budget for travel and other expenses will be provided, and there will be several opportunities to attend related conferences. The research will be carried out with collaborators of several industrial and academic institutions. The project outcomes will be evaluated on state-of-the-art vehicle demonstrators.

Required Qualifications:

  1. The successful candidate must have a strong background in vehicle dynamics and control theory
  2. Should be a holder of an MEng/MSc degree in one of the areas of mechanical engineering, control systems engineering, automotive engineering or electrical engineering.
  3. Expertise in the following areas is highly desirable:
  4. Energy management controllers for electric and hybrid electric vehicles; Electric powertrains.

The appointee will join Surrey’s Centre for Automotive Engineering of the Mechanical Engineering Sciences Department, which has research interests in a wide range of topics, including active vehicle dynamics, tyre dynamics, electric powertrains, vehicle aerodynamics and novel transmission systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
