The Cardiff School of Biosciences at Cardiff University is offering the position for a full-time Research Associate, supporting the project entitled “Exploiting oncolytic bacteria for early detection of solid tumours”, funded by Cancer Research UK.
About the position:
- The successful candidate will direct an exciting and ambitious multi-disciplinary clinically focused CRUK funded project to determine the suitability of using bacteria to improve early detection of cancer.
- A PhD in a related life sciences area will be required and established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within at least 4 of the following research fields; cell and molecular biology, in vivo models of cancer, 2D & 3D cell culture, microscopy and image analysis, intestinal cancer and microbiology.
- This is a full time position, available immediately, fixed term until 31st May 2022.
Qualifications:
- Postgraduate degree at PhD level (or nearing completion / submission) in a related subject area or relevant industrial experience
- An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within at least 4 of the following research fields: Cell and molecular biology; In vivo models of cancer; 2D & 3D cell culture; Microscopy and image analysis; Intestinal cancer; Microbiology
- Excellent knowledge of current status of research in specialist field, ideally demonstrated by publications and presentations at large international conferences.
- Proven ability to manage multiple lines of investigation in parallel
- Proven ability to publish in high-quality journals, as evidenced by published articles and/or manuscripts under review
- Knowledge and understanding of competitive research funding to be able to develop applications to funding bodies.
