UCL’s Research Fellowship Programs seek to recruit the highest caliber early career researchers from across the globe, supporting them to become the research leaders of the future.

Name of the Fellowship Schemes

  1. Excellence Fellowship

The UCL Excellence Fellowships Program recruits exceptional early career clinical and non-clinical researchers from across the globe and supports them to establish their independent career and become the research leaders of the future.

2. RAEng Research Fellowship

Program is aimed to support outstanding early-career researchers, who have been awarded their PhD in the last four years and do not hold a permanent academic position, to enable them to become future research leaders in engineering.

3. Royal Society professor scheme

This scheme is open to world-class researchers (scientists and engineers) of outstanding achievement.

4. Royal Commission

Research Fellowships are intended to give early career scientists or engineers of exceptional promise the opportunity to conduct a research project of their own instigation.

5. Leverhulme fellow

A range of schemes supporting Early Career Researchers, International fellowships, major research fellowships and Emeritus Fellows

6. UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships

Supporting Early Career Researchers to develop independent research careers for up to seven years; open to international researchers.

7. Royal Society Fellowships

Supporting Early Career Researchers within the Royal Society’s remit of natural sciences, which includes but is not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics.

8. Newton Fellowships

These fellowships are for non-UK scientists who are at an early stage of their research career and wish to conduct research in the UK.

9. Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships provide opportunities for experienced researchers to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research and innovation in a European context.

10. Wellcome Senior Research Fellowships

Senior Research Fellowships support independent researchers who want to tackle the most important questions in science and who are leaders in their field.

11. Wellcome Sir Henry Dale Fellowships

The scheme provides support for postdoctoral researchers who aim to become independent scientists leading their own groups.

12. Wellcome Principal Research Fellowships

Long-term funding for researchers of international standing.

13. Wellcome Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoc Fellowships

Researchers in the final year of PhD studies or who have no more than one year of postdoctoral research experience.

14. MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowships

Develops outstanding medically and other clinically qualified professionals who have gained a higher research degree to establish themselves as independent researchers.

15. CRUK Clinician Scientist Fellowships

Supports excellent individuals to develop a clinical academic research career through a period of postdoc training

16. CRUK Career Development Award

Career Development Fellowship supports new group leaders who do not have a salaried independent position to establish their own independent research group.

17. CRUK Advanced Clinician Scientist Fellowships

Advanced Clinician Scientist Fellowship supports excellent clinician scientists to develop independence and leadership in their field of academic research.

18. CRUK Senior Cancer Research Fellowships

Aimed at established independent researchers. Supports group leaders to further develop their own research, within any area of Cancer Research UK’s funding remit.

19. Alzheimer’s Research UK Fellowships

Fellowships and funding are available for researchers at a range of points in their career, working on biomedical research in Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

20. Alzheimer’s Society Junior Fellowships

For postdoc researchers who have shown exceptional promise at the start of their research career, and demonstrate potential to be an independent researcher.

21. Alzheimer’s Society Senior Fellowships

For pos-doc or researchers who wish to build on a number of successful years of dementia research and demonstrate the potential to be a leader in their research field.

22. Alzheimer’s Society Clinician & Healthcare Professionals Training Fellowships

For practicing healthcare professionals working in dementia health who wish to study towards a higher research degree develop a combined research and practice career.

23. MQ Mental Health Fellows

Supporting Early Career Reesearchers in mental health research.

24. Dunhill Medical Trust Research Training Fellowships

For practicing healthcare professionals who wish to pursue a research career in understanding age-related health issues and improving health and social care for older people.
