Research Scientist, Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery at the Pharmaceutics & Drug Delivery, University of Mississippi (USA)
Overview
The research scientist will work independently and as a part of team to develop topical products, characterize and evaluate topical products in vivo pharmacodynamic models. The successful candidate is required to have expertise in DMPK research and apply expert knowledge to address critical DMPK related issues to support topical drug delivery. The candidate will be responsible for developing and validation of bioanalytical methods using LC-MS/MS and HPLC.
Work Performed
- In-vitro permeation testing using horizontal, vertical and flow through Franz diffusion cells.
- Development and evaluation of cyclodextrin enabled oral and topical formulations.
- Development of in-vivo neuropathic pain model and UV erythema models to evaluate the therapeutic potential of topical formulations.
- Design in-vitro ADME assays, preclinical formulation and pharmacokinetic studies (oral, sublingual, IP, IM, IV and intranasal) of new chemical entities/generic drugs in rodent models.
- Handle and maintain R28, ARPE, hepatocytes, Caco2, MDR1-MDCK, human epidermal keratinocytes, dermal fibroblasts and HACAT cell lines for executing cell-based studies.
- Study drug metabolism in human skin models (epidermal keratinocytes, dermal fibroblasts and human skin S9 fractions).
- Operate and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS (Waters Xevo TQD/TQS) and HPLC (Shimadzu, Waters alliance 2996 and Waters Acuity UPLC).
- Develop and validate HPLC and LC-MS/MS bioanalytical method to analyze drug in ex-vivo, in-vitro and in-vivo study samples.
- Develop, validate or optimize existing and new in-vitro assays for solving project related scientific issues.
- Participation in development of research ideas and perform complex data analysis efficiently to publish the results.
- Supervise and assist research activities for graduate students.
- Assist the PI in designing and conduct of startup projects and collection of preliminary data for future funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
- D. degree is required in pharmaceutical sciences or a related field by the time of the appointment.
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience in designing in-vitro ADME assays, pharmacokinetic and bioanalytical method development using HPLC and LC-MS/MS.
