The research unit “Biological Oceanography, Microbial Biogeochemistry” of the research division “Marine Biogeochemistry” at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is offering a Scientific Employee (Postdoc) position in Biogeochemistry.
About the position:
- The successful candidate will investigate the microbial turnover of dissolved and particulate organic matter (carbon, gel-like particles, amino acids, carbohydrates) in the ocean using biogeochemical, microbial and microscopic (confocal laser scanning microscopy) techniques, and plan and conduct seagoing expeditions.
- The successful candidate will also refine methods for the determination of particle export fluxes and turn-over in situ, e.g. with drifting sediment traps, Large Volume Sampler (Marine Snow Catcher).
Qualification:
- Applicant must hold PhD in Biological Oceanography, Marine Chemistry / Marine Microbiology / Marine Biology or a related subject.
- Applicant must have a strong background in Organic Chemistry and Microbiology.
- Applicant is expected to have experiences in the planning and execution of seagoing expeditions.
- Applicant must have the ability and readiness for seagoing research.
- Applicant must demonstrate very good publication activity as well as successful third-party funding.
Starting date: November 15th, 2018
