Ministry of Earth Sciences invites applications for the post of Scientist G in filling up the post of Scientist G. the position is available under the project “Deep Drilling in the Koyna Intraplate Seismic Zone”.

Salary: Rs.37,400-67,000 + Grade Pay Rs.10,000/-(pre-revised)

The main objectives of the project are:

  • To establish a Deep Borehole Observatory for directly measuring the in-situ physical properties of rocks, pore-fluids pressure, hydrological parameters, temperature and other parameters of an intra-plate, active, fault zone in the near-field of earthquakes before, during and after their occurrence.
  • To set up Research Laboratory to serve as the operational centre for carrying out the research activities related to the scientific deep drilling, borehole investigations, core analysis and research, and associated field/research studies.
  • To understand the mechanisms of faulting and physics of the earthquakes towards realistic seismic hazard assessment in an intra-plate environment.

Qualification & Experience requirements:

  • Applicant must hold Master’s degree in Geoscience/Geology/Geophysics/Seismology with at least Ist class at PG level from a recognized university. PhD degree shall count as three years’ experience
  • Applicant must hold 21 years’ experience in teaching (at post graduate level) or R&D, planning, supervision, etc in geophysics and earthquake related studies.
  • Applicant must not exceed 50 years (as on normal closing date); Relaxable for Government Servants up to 5 years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government
