The Live-cell Imaging Facility (Dr. Péter Lénárt) at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry invites applications to recruit a Scientist who jointly with the Facility head will be responsible for the daily operations, with emphasis on computational/software related tasks.
The facility provides access to advanced light microscopy technologies and support – from sample preparation through image acquisition to image data analysis.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- provision of standard software tools (booking system, microscope control and automation scripts, data storage, data processing workflows (e. g. deconvolution, segmentation, FRAP, FRET, FC(C)S));
- providing walk-in service for expert advice on automated image acquisition, experimental design as well as image and data analysis;
- involvement in research and development projects to support researchers at the Institute (e. g. custom microscope automation routines, image and data analysis tools, computational modeling);
- contribute to training activities run by the Facility (one-on-one training and training courses)
Requirements:
- Applicant must have some experience in supporting biologists in imaging applications on commercial microscope systems and in automating these for complex, long-term, multimodal experiments (e.g. FRAP, PA, microsurgery, FC(C)S, FLIM and nanoscopy).
- Applicant MUST have proficiency in performing standard image analysis tasks using common software tools (e.g. ImageJ, Matlab, R, Imaris, Arivis) and programming languages (e.g. Java, Python).
- Applicant must demonstrate expertise in modeling biological processes (e.g. to interpret FRAP, FRET, FC(C)S data), along with a good general understanding of biological problems is a major advantage.
- Applicant must possess excellent communication skills (German and English),
- Applicant must hold PhD in natural sciences or a comparable qualification.
Starting date: not after than 1 June 2018 (full-time position)
Duration: initially for 2 years with an option to a long-term appointment
Applications:
- Application to be sent via email as single PDF file with reference code number (Job Code: 47-17) to ausschreibung47-17@mpibpc.mpg.de. Application must consists of:
- Short letter of motivation
- CV
- A list of publications
