South China University of Technology (SCUT) is one of China’s leading universities. It operates under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education.
The new Chinese Government Scholarship for Chinese University Program and Silk Road Program is now open.
Since 2012, SCUT has been in the top 500 of QS World University Rankings.
Nationality: open for all non-Chinese students
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide proof of efficiency in English.
- Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals and be in good health.
- Applicants studying to earn a Master’s degree must have a Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
- Applicants studying to earn a Doctorate degree must have a Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
- Applicants should not be in receipt of any other type of scholarship at any of the universities in China.

Scholarship Details:
- Registration, tuition and accommodation fee would be exempted
- The following monthly living allowance would be provided:
- Master’s degree students: RMB 3,000
- Doctorate degree students: RMB 3,500
- Comprehensive Medical Insurance would be provided for International Students.
How to Apply: Application is online. The step by step process has been illustrated as below:
Step 1: the application should be opened at http://www.csc.edu.cn/Laihua/

- The application form should be downloaded.
- <APPLICATION FORM FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP> (pdf) and two copies should be printed.
Step 2: the link http://scut.edu.cn/apply should be opened and the form should be submitted to <APPLICATION FORM FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP> (pdf) to the system.
- All the master’s or doctoral applicants should contact supervisors from professional school in SCUT via mail or interview.
- The applicants, who pass the assessment by supervisors, please ask the supervisors to sign a <pre-acceptance letters>.
Step 3: <The Checklist of SCUT Chinese Government Scholarship Following Application Material> should be checked to see what documents need to be submitted.
- The documents should then be delivered to the Admissions Office of School of International Education, SCUT.
Documents Required:
- Application form for Chinese government scholarship
- SCUT application form for foreign students
- Copy of Front Page of Passport, Visa Page
- Highest diploma or Pre-graduate Certificate (original copy and notarized photocopy)
- Academic transcripts (original copy and notarized photocopy) A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (Chinese or English, no less than 500 words).
- 2 recommendation letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors
- A preacceptance letter of supervisor issued by SCUT professors or
- associate professors
- The applicants of PhD have to submit Abstract(s) of Graduation Thesis(es) or Published Paper(s)
- One cassette record for those applying to music programs
- Design portfolio for those applying to architecture programs.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
- Language requirements for Chinese-Medium Programs:
- New HSK Band 4 with scores above 180 for Science or Engineering studies;
- New HSK Band 5 with scores above 180 for Liberal Arts, Economics, or Management Studies.
- Language requirements for English-Medium Programs (only for non-English speaking countries):
- TOEFL IBT 80 or above;
- IELTS 6.0 above or above.
- Applications from English speaking countries:
- A letter of English as a medium of instruction issued by graduated universities or educational institutes.
