SERB High Risk-High Research Awards: SERB High Risk-High Research Awards for Indian Students.

SERB-(Science and Engineering Research Board) is offering High Risk – High research awards to Indian researchers.

The SERB awards are available for the research proposals that are

  • new
  • challenge existing hypothesis and
  • Provide ‘out of the box’ thinking on important problems.

High Risk – High research awards have been created for supporting proposals that are conceptually new and risky. And if these proposals are successful, they would be greatly influencing the S&T field.

Level of Study: Research.

Study Subject: there is no subject in particular. However, the proposals should be new, challenge existing hypothesis, and provide ‘out of the box’ thinking and unique solutions to important problems.

Scholarship Value details: The scholarship includes:

  • Funding for a period of 3 years.
  • In exceptional cases, the duration can be up to 5 years as per the expert committee’s assessment.
  • The research grant covers consumables, equipment, travels and contingency planning other than overhead grants.
  • There is no budget limit prescribed for this type of projects.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicants must be researchers.
  • Applicants should be an Indian citizen residing in India.
  • The proposals can be submitted by an individual or by a team of investigators.
  • The applicant(s) must hold a regular academic/research position in a recognized institution.
  • Proposals submitted by a team of investigators must identify a Principal Investigator, who will lead the research objectives and administer the grant.

 Nationality: Indian citizens can apply.

 How to Apply: Application can be done online. The process for the same is as follows:-

  • The candidate first needs to register online
  • The candidate should then fill all the mandatory fields in Profile Detail section under User Profile, which includes Bio-data, Photo, and Institute Address etc.
  • In case the applicant has CO-PI in his/her proposal then they should ensure that all the CO-PI’s are also registered into the system following the same procedure.
  • The approximate word limit for the various headings of the proposal are as follows:
  1. Project Title (max 500 characters),
  2. Project Summary (max 3000 characters),
  3. Keywords (max 6),
  4. Objectives of project (max 1500 characters),
  5. Expected output and outcome of the proposal (max 1500 characters),
  • Budget of the proposal including manpower, consumables, travel, equipment, contingency and overheads have to be entered at the time of proposal submission.
  • A single PDF file not more than 10 MB should include other technical documents (OTD) and other relevant information about the proposal

Application Deadline: proposals can be submitted any time of the year.
