Sino-German Research Training Group: Nine (09) PhD and One (01) PDF – The Sino-German Research Training Group (GRK 2309) “Geo-ecosystems in transition on the Tibetan Plateau” (TransTiP) offers a research-oriented doctoral program analyzing different
aspects of Earth surface fluxes on the Tibetan Plateau in three distinct project areas: Sediment fluxes, carbon fluxes, water fluxes and water quality. TransTiP is jointly run by the following organizations:

  1. Technische Universität Braunschweig,
  2. Leibniz Universität Hannover,
  3. Friedrich Schiller Universität Jena,
  4. Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research
  5. Lanzhou University in China.

For the start as of January Is1 2018, TransTiP is now offering:
Nine (09) PhD positions (Three years, 50-100%)

One (01) PostDoc position (metabarcoding and ancient DNA analysis from sediment cores, two years, 100%, with possible extension for another 2 years)

Requirements / Qualifications:

  1. Seeking highly motivated and qualified early career researchers interested to work in
    the wide field of geobiosciences.
  2. The individual thesis topics and corresponding specific requirements
  3. Excellent  University  degree  (equivalent  diploma/master)
  4. Expertise in geophysical sciences, environmental sciences, biological sciences, or related fields
  5. Strong scientific motivation
  6. Strong affection to acquire interdisciplinary work and research experience
  7. Fluent verbal and written English communication skills

Tasks Involved

  1. Participation in the qualification program of the Research Training Group
  2. Test of scientific communication and personal motivation; short-listed applicants will be invited to present and discuss their MSc-thesis work in English
  3. PostDoc: first author papers in high-quality international journals and teaching experience, candidates with international working experience are especially welcome. Expertise in molecular laboratory work, next-generation sequencing techniques, and bioinformatic analysis of ancient or environmental DNA is desirable.
