University of Zurich invites applications for Start scholarship (for PhD students) at the Department of History (Chair of Prof. Dr. Francisca Loetz). This scholarship is a one-year start-up scholarship for doctoral students, that will be available at the earliest possible date, but no later than October 1, 2018, within the framework of the “500 Years Zurich Reformation” project “Lived Zurich Reformation” (CHF 30’000).
About the scholarship:
- The scholarship serves to prepare a research project that deals with the history of prostitution in Zurich during the Reformation period.
- For the first time, the project aims to scientifically comprehensively work on and explore this topic on the basis of a rich archival tradition in the Staatsarchiv Zürich.
- The planned dissertation is part of the project “Living Zurich Reformation”, with which a new standard work on the history of the Zurich Reformation is to be developed.
- First work results of the dissertation project will be presented at a conference in November 2019.
Requirements:
- Applications are open to young researchers with a university degree in history, preferably with an emphasis on early modern history, medieval history and / or Swiss history.
- Applicant must have high motivation to carry out an independent, multi-year research project as well as the ability to work with handwritten sources.
