Maynooth University invites applications for a four-year Athena SWAN Doctoral Fellowship for 2019-22. The focus of the fellowship is an intersectional analysis of gender equality in higher educational institutions and the fellow will contribute specifically to a University strategy to address the underrepresentation of women from racial, ethnic and cultural minorities in all grades of staff.

Duration: Funded for 4 years (Structured PhD), full-time.

About the Project:

This PhD scholarship will:

  • result in a report on gender inequality as experienced by racial, ethnic and cultural minorities in Irish third level institutions
  • address a lack of data and research into the experience of racial, ethnic and cultural minority staff in Irish third level institutions
  • The report on gender inequality as experienced by racial, ethnic and cultural minority staff in Irish Universities will be launched and published online and policy recommendations for the sector will be made, in collaboration with the Maynooth University Athena SWAN Steering Group.

Scholarship value: Stipend: €16K Scholarship (€9K stipend + €1K costs + €6K fees).

Requirements:

  • The PhD fellowship will be awarded on a competitive basis and applicants will be expected to demonstrate both a strong academic background and aptitude for social sciences research.
  • Applicant must at least have minimum of 2.1 grade (or equivalent) in MA in Sociology, Education, Women’s Studies, Law, Anthropology, Social Policy, Geography or related social sciences discipline.
  • Required Skills and experience: Knowledge and experience undertaking Intersectional Gender Analysis (ideally in a Higher Education setting), Quantitative and Qualitative Research, Report Writing.
  • Evidence of capacity to undertake independent research, demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team and strong communication skills.
