The Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at Assistant Professor level in the Environmental Sciences group.
About the position:
- The selected candidate will contribute to understanding the effects of these pressures on terrestrial vegetation in the context of global change and the ambition of sustainable development.
- The candidate’s research specifically contributes to halting biodiversity loss and solving the friction between nature and agriculture.
- The selected candidate is expected to develop an internationally renowned research line at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development.
- As new Assistant Professor you will teach in the Bachelor’s programme Global Sustainability Science (i.e. teaching in courses on natural processes and (biogeo) chemistry and developing a Sustainable Food Track) and the internationally leading Master’s programme Sustainable Development (including designing a field course).
Qualifications:
- Applicant must have expertise and PhD in Plant Ecology (terrestrial ecosystems, biodiversity, nutrients), soil chemistry, plant soil interactions and/or biogeochemistry.
- Applicant must be interested to work in an interdisciplinary research group on themes such as agro-ecology, interactions between nature and agriculture, restoration ecology, nature based solutions and ecosystem services.
- Applicant must have experience with field work and experiments, have floristic skills and are skilled in the lab. Modeling skills are considered a plus.
- Applicant must have excellent communication skills;
- Applicant must be able to demonstrate excellent English language proficiency. (English at C1 level (CEFR or comparable to level 3 of the Lecturer Assessment Grid).
