Thrasher Research Fund recognizes that young scholars may find it difficult to remain in pediatric research because of a lack of funding. The objective of this program is to motivate the development of medical research in child health by giving small grants to new researchers, helping them gain a position in this important area.

Number of awards: 30 awards in two funding cycles; 15 awards each cycle

Research Interests:

The Fund is open to a diverse research topics having importance to children’s health. In the Early Career Award Program, the Fund is mainly interested in applicants that show great potential to impact that field of children’s health through medical research. Both an applicant’s skills and preference toward research are considered.

Eligibility & Requirements:

Those eligible to apply include:

  • Physicians who are in a residency or fellowship training program, or who completed the program not more than 1 year before the date of submission of the Concept Paper.
  • Postdoc researchers who received the PhD level degree not more than 3 years before the date of submission of the Concept Paper.
  • Note: new scholar who holds a National Institutes of Health (NIH) K award or a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) is not eligible to apply for the award.
  • Each project needs to be under the guidance of a guide. The qualifications and experience of the guide will be considered in the evaluation of the application.
  • A guide may have only one Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Awardee at a time.
  • There are no limitations with regard to nationality of applicants.
  • The Fund is open to applications from institutions both inside and outside the US.

Concept Submission Deadline: MARCH 13, 2018 (NOON MDT)

  • 2018 FALL CYCLE

Concept Submission Deadline: SEPTEMBER 18, 2018 (NOON MDT)

Application procedure:

  • The Fund uses a two-step process for the Early Career Awards.
  • The Ist step is the submission of a Concept Paper.
  • Applicants whose concepts generally fit with the current significances of the Fund are invited to submit a full proposal.
  • Full proposals are studied by the Fund’s Advisory Committee.
