University of British Columbia: Postdoctoral (Oncology)

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified candidate to join our research team at the University of British Columbia. The focus of our research group is women’s health, primarily gynaecologic cancer.

Research Areas: Ovarian and endometrial cancer prevention and survivorship. Precision medicine and digital health interventions to improve gynecologic and women’s health more broadly .

Project Overview

The successful applicant will work within Dr. Aline Talhouk’s research lab, and in collaboration with Dr. Gillian Hanley. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing research protocols, data acquisition and data management, performing statistical analyses, troubleshooting, interpreting results, drafting peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication, and assisting in grant applications. Additionally, the candidate will help organize the training of students and new team personnel according to UBC guidelines, as well as organize and lead weekly laboratory meetings, and troubleshoot areas of concern on the various studies.

Required Qualifications: The candidate will have

  1. PhD in Microbiology, computer science or biostatistics and several years of postdoctoral experience in a related field.
  2. The candidate will also possess the ability to think critically, good judgment, excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
  3. Research: This includes participating in:
    Data analysis, drafting papers for publication in peer-reviewed papers
    b. Assistance in the development and preparation of research grant applications
    c. Designing research studies, and planning study methods, in consultation with the P.I.
    d. Presentation at scientific conferences, seminars and meetings.
    e.Supervision of research assistants and PhD trainees and overseeing operations, timelines and deliverables and monitoring work quality.
