JRF Position in Chemistry Available: Applications are invited for the post of a Junior Research Fellow in a BRNS-sponsored research project (Sanction No. 37(2)14/06/2014-brns) entitled “Synthesis and development of fluorimetric/colorimetric probes for the determination of Cu, Fe and Zn in blood serum and cell lines” in discipline of chemistry at Center for Nano and material Sciences (CNMS), Jain University Bangalore, Karnataka.
Qualification and Experience:
- M. Sc. in Chemistry (preferably Organic chemistry). Candidate should have obtained at least 55% marks in qualifying degree
- Preference will be given to CSIR-UGC NET (JRF/LS) or GATE qualified candidate.
- The ability to work closely and collaborate with colleagues is a must Proficiency with the English language is required.
- The Candidate must qualify her/his for Ph D entrance exam
The ]RF fellowship consists of Rs.15000/- per month and Rs 1000/- for PF and PT as per university rule. The salary and appointment terms are as per University regulations.
Duration: Initial appointment for one year, extendable up to 3 yrs based on performance.
Objective of the 3 years position is a number of research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, together with a PhD thesis
leading to the grant of the PhD degree at the Jain University.

The present proposal focuses on design, synthesis and spectral characterization of fluoreseien and rhodamine derivatives and
studying their absorption and emission properties for fluorimetric/colorimetric sensing of Cu, Fe and Zn in blood serum and cell lines.
The designing of the probes involves the spirolactam ring opening basis (fluorimetric/colorimetric OFF-ON mode). Various derivatives of rhodamine and fluoreseien are synthesized with various amines, aldehyde and other functional bearing groups. Then they are characterized by >H and 13C NMR and ESI-MS techniques. Finally their absorbance and emission properties have been studied inorder to develop fluorescence /colorimetric protocols for Cu, Fe and Zn. Then these probes have been used for fluorimetric/colorimetric determination of Cu, Fe and Zn in blood serum. Then these probes are tested for the fluorescence imaging of the above said metals in various cultured cell lines.
