Organic synthesis, purification, and characterization Chemist position in USA

We are seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to join our growing Research & Development Team as an Associate Chemist – Organic Chemistry. This position will be responsible for assisting in the chemical synthesis, purification, and characterization of new ingredients, including amino acid or peptide based chemistries, for a wide range of cosmetic and therapeutic indications.

This position will also assist in routine and novel analytical separation methods for characterization purposes as well as target identification. In addition, this position will handle chemical separations at the analytical level as well as preparative level. Knowledge of organic synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, biology, molecular biology, is required. Location: Princeton, NJ.

Essential Duties:

Perform all aspects of bench organic synthetic chemistry including use of starting materials, reagents, catalysts, solvents, following procedures provided by supervisor

Separation / purification techniques including but not limited to distillation, crystallization, extraction, preparative HPLC, electrophoresis

Operation of equipment to aid in chemical synthesis, isolation, and purification, under the direction of supervisor, including Prep-HPLC, Protein synthesizer, lyophilizer, etc

Use of analytical equipment to characterize chemicals, including but not limited to HPLC, IR, UV, Melting Point

Regular lab maintenance, including but not limited to chemical ordering, cleaning glassware, sending out samples for analysis, logging and storing results

Document work in Laboratory Notebook

Follow safe lab practices SOPs

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s of Science degree in chemistry, with a minimum of college laboratory experience in organic chemistry

1-3 years of industrial chemistry, ideally organic synthetic chemistry and analytical characterization experience

Knowledge of the skin chemistry / biochemistry is desired

Knowledge of analytical methods including IR, UV, HPLC, Mass Spec, NMR

Familiarity with standard laboratory concepts, practices and procedures is required

Strong written/verbal communication skills

Must possess a proven track record of dependability and commitment

Be able to perform individually and as part of a team

Fully computer literate
