PhD in mobile computing, University of Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Katarzyna Wac. Scientists at University of Geneva, Institute of Services Science, Quality of Life technologies group, are looking for a motivated PhD student candidate, keen on working in the area of geo-localized mobile computing and communications for the next generation of mobile applications.

Particularly, the objective of the PhD project is to develop, implement and evaluate predictive models of user experience when using mobile Internet in different contexts of daily life (locations, times, mobility levels, varying user’s expectations, etc.).

The candidate must – in addition to the qualifications listed below – have a solid academic background in the relevant areas of computer science, as demonstrated by academic courses and project/thesis work related to: machine learning and data mining, design of telecommunication services and geospatial data analytics. Experience with programming of mobile devices is required. Experience in conducting user studies is desirable, but not required.

Knowledge of French is welcome, but not required.

Must be a Swiss/EU citizen to apply.  

Age limit: 30.

The key criteria of excellence for the assessment of the candidates are:

  1. Grades that document an outstanding academic record
  2. Scientific publication(s) in recognized, peer-reviewed venues
  3. Awards and honours

Candidates who do not stand out in at least one of the abovementioned criteria of excellence will not be considered for the position.
