Application details: The successful candidate will perform research under the theme “diabetic cardiomyopathy: role of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and physical training”, focusing on cardiac remodeling (both in vivo and in vitro). The candidate is responsible for performing experiments with animals and with patients, molecular and clinical measurements/observations, analyses, presentations at international conferences, and writing abstracts/article(s), resulting in a full doctoral thesis.

Recently, a new research area “Cardiology” was launched in the BiomedicalResearch Institute (BIOMED) of Hasselt University, in close collaboration with the hospitals ZOL Genk and Jessa Hasselt and the Rehabilitation Research Centre (REVAL). Within this research domain, cardiology expertise is being developed on AGEs-RAGE interactions and its role in heart and kidney (dys) function.

The ultimate goal is the development and testing of novel therapeutics in using animal models and patients. Duration of job: 4 years Status: Full-time Additional requirements: Good knowledge of heart function and/or techniques to evaluate heart function (for instance echocardiography) are an asset.
