PhD Position in Organic Synthesis with a Biomedical Focus Edinburgh

A 3-year PhD studentship funded at the home/EU rate is available from the School of Chemistry. Key tasks of the PhD student will involve the design and organic synthesis and testing of a variety of chemical sensors for sensing a number of biological stimuli.

Longer term these will be attached to the sensor chip for implantation into the tumor to aid the delivery of radio and chemotherapies.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has sponsored a £5.2M Programme Grant (IMPACT) led by the University of Edinburgh (UoE). IMPACT (Implantable Microsystems for Personalised Anti-Cancer Therapy) is a 5 year, multi-disciplinary collaboration, bringing together an internationally recognized team of engineers, chemists, veterinary clinicians, social scientists and human cancer specialists from the University of Edinburgh and Heriot Watt University.

The IMPACT team includes Investigators and clinicians with world class track records in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Medicine and Social Sciences, as well as a wider team of experienced researchers, research associates and postgraduate students who will work on developing new approaches to cancer treatment. As part of its research, IMPACT is now seeking to recruit high-calibre PhD students who wish to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary and world-class team.
