Postdoctoral researcher (bioengineering, environmental microbiology or geomicrobiology), Tampere University of Technology. The Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering undertakes world-class research in the areas of Bioengineering, Chemistry and Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

The Department shares the common long-term focus of developing new and sustainable concepts and processes for resource recovery and for the development of renewable energy technologies. The position will be located at TUT in the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering, in Bio and circular economy research group.

Job description:The research involves studying microbiological processes in laboratory and pilot studies simulating waste disposal in geological environments. The work will partly be carried out in an industry funded project.

The duties of all doctoral students include teaching duties that amount to approximately 5% of their annual working hours, unless there are justified reasons to the contrary.

Postdoctoral researcher appointment may entail some teaching responsibilities as well. 

Requirements:Doctoral student:

The successful candidate must hold an applicable higher university degree and have experience of laboratory work on microbiological studies. The candidate must have demonstrated, during his or her studies towards the higher university degree or otherwise, the competence and motivation to pursue postgraduate studies and complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.

Research plan for the completion of a doctorate is required. The research plan for the completion of a doctorate, will be prepared according to TUT’s instructions in collaboration within the research group.

A certificate of proficiency in the English language for students whose first language is not Finnish or English will be required from the chosen candidate within four months after being appointed for the position.

Postdoctoral researcher:

The successful candidate must hold an applicable doctoral degree and possess relevant research experience on microbiology, competence to pursue independent scientific work and have experience on publishing ones results in scientific journals. The candidate must also possess teaching skills to perform the possible teaching duties of the position.

Valid driving license is required, as the work will require travelling to the pilot site.

Salary:The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff the position of a Doctoral Student is placed on the job demands levels 1-4 or post doc on levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance based salary.
Trial period:Trial period of 4 months applies.
Other:The position will be filled now for a fixed-term period of two (2) years. Appointment is expected to commence on 1 March 2016 or as mutually agreed.
