IIT (www.iit.it) invites qualified senior applicants for a researcher position in Magnetic Resonance Imaging at the Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems of IIT in Trento. Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) (http://www.iit.it) is a private law Foundation, created with special Government Law no. 269 dated September 30th 2003 with the objective of promoting Italy’s technological development and higher education in science and technology. Research at IIT is carried out in highly innovative scientific fields with state-of-the-art technology.
The Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems – CNCS is hosted within the facilities of the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences – CIMeC (http://www.unitn.it/cimec), an interdisciplinary teaching and research center in cognitive neuroscience of the University of Trento in Rovereto, Italy. CIMeC also hosts a Doctoral School in Cognitive and Brain Sciences (http://www.unitn.it/en/drcimec). The University of Trento is ranked first among research universities in Italy and the region of Trentino Alto Adige is a top geographic location in terms of quality of life and efficiency of services in Italy.
We invite applications for a Researcher position focusing on the development of advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging methods for the study of brain structure and function in animal models. Specifically, we intend to apply non-invasive, translational MRI techniques to identify functional and structural alterations in mouse models of human brain disease to improve diagnosis and monitoring of response to therapy. Areas of interest include:
Pharmacological MRI
Imaging of brain metabolism in the healthy brain and in models of mitochondrial dysfunction and neurodegenerative disease
Functional imaging by MEMRI
Identification of brain structural and functional alterations in models of neurological and psychiatric conditions.
The successful applicant will work in Rovereto (Tn), at the Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems, where she/he will have access to a state-of-the-art MRI scanner (multichannel Bruker 7T), a modern vivarium, genotyping and optical microscopy labs, excellent computational facilities for image processing and analysis and technical support in all aspects of animal preparation and monitoring.
The ideal candidate has a PhD in Biology, Neuroimaging, Biomedical Engineering, MR Physics or related disciplines and should demonstrate excellence in research through a strong track record of publications in leading international journals. Previous experience with Bruker MR scanners and standard image processing software (FSL, SPN, AFNI etc.) would be an advantage. Fluency in English is a requirement.
Our offer: Salary is internationally competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
Your applications (deadline June 15, 2015): applications including a detailed curriculum vitae, 5 representative publications, and 3 pages of research statement should be submitted in PDF format to applications@iit.it quoting “Researcher MRI” in the subject line.
