Postdoc position in Fragment based Drug Discovery (organic chemistry) UK

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to work with Professor Chris Abell in the Department of Chemistry in a collaborative project with Professor Sir Tom Blundell (Department of Biochemistry) that will use fragment-based approaches to discover molecules that inhibit enzymes from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (see Angew. Chemie Intl. Ed. 2012, 51, 9311-9316 for an example of our work).

The project will primarily involve synthetic organic chemistry, and also some molecular design and biophysical screening. This is part of a larger drug discovery initiative.

Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in organic chemistry. Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry is essential; some knowledge of enzymology, biological chemistry and drug discovery would be advantageous.

The position is available immediately.
