2 year postdoctoral position on single molecule FRET in nano apertures at Department of Chemistry of University of Copenhagen: One postdoctoral position is available in the group of Tom Vosch, Department of Chemistry, Nano-Science Center, University of Copenhagen. The position is offered as part of a HFSP collaboration project between the groups of Tom Vosch, Prof. Chris Richards (University of Kentucky) and Harley Kurata (University of Alberta).

The suitable candidate will have experience with single molecule microscopy and FRET. The position is available from January 1st 2016 or soon thereafter.

The Project: By use of plasmonic nano apertures, the fluorescence signal of fluorophores can be modified and the effect of this on the Donor and Acceptor in a FRET pair will be examined. Since the donor will be depopulated from the excited state at a different rate, due to coupling with the surface plasmon, the rate of energy transfer will also be altered. By comparing the characteristics of FRET on glass coverslip versus inside the nano aperture, we will determine the effect of the plasmonic structure on the efficiency for different FRET pairs.

The postdoctoral candidate should hold a PhD degree in e.g. chemistry, nanoscience, fluorescence microscopy, or related fields. They should have a strong publication record and preferably a previous postdoctoral experience. Experience with fluorescence-based microscopy, single molecule microscopy experiments, photophysics, Förster Resonance Energy Transfer and some elementary programming are a strong advantage.

The candidate must work actively within an international, cross-disciplinary group of researchers: therefore strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory.

Application Procedure:

Applicants must apply online by clicking on “APPLY NOW” below.

The application must include:
1. Motivation/Cover letter (max 1 page)
2. Curriculum vitae including List of publications
3. Copies of diploma/degree certificates

4. One or more recommendation letters highlighting any skills or experience particularly relevant for the project.

Applications will be assessed upon receipt and position will be filled from January 1st 2016 or soon thereafter.

Deadline:  October 27th 2015 at 11:59pm CET.

Applications will be handled and processed by the main supervisor and an assessment committee. The University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
