The Research Priority Area Sustainable Chemistry, which is part of the Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) of the Faculty of Science, is looking for talented postdoctoral researchers to join a challenging project, (within the project Catalysis for Peptide Couplings), as detailed below. The applicant will be selected based on his/her suitability to the project. The successful candidate will be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher in a fixed-term contract.

Project description

The project ‘Transition-metal catalyzed epimerization-free peptide C-terminal activation and fragment coupling’ is a joint project of the UvA and  EnzyPep that is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research under the LIFT programme. We aim at the scalable solution-phase synthesis of peptides via a novel transition-metal-catalyzed epimerization-free C-terminal carboxyl activation as enol esters and subsequent peptide fragment coupling (ligation). For the proof-of-concept peptides of the pharmaceutically relevant relin family will be prepared.

Requirements

Candidates must have a PhD degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, with a strong synthetic/catalytic background and excellent communication skills in English. Candidates with proven experience in the areas described above are preferred. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage. Due to limitations in recruitment budget we will preferably consider candidates that are currently in Europe.
