Created from a high-profile merger between three leading universities in Finland – the Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and the University of Art and Design Helsinki – Aalto University opens up new possibilities for strong multidisciplinary education and research. Aalto University has 20 000 students and a staff of 5 000 including 370 professors.
Institute: Biomolecular materials group, School of Chemical Technology, Aalto University. The group is led by professor Markus Linder and works as a part of the Center of Excellence in “Molecular engineering of biosynthetic hybrid materials” (hyber.aalto.fi) and the strategic research opening on Synthetic Biology – Living Factories funded by Tekes. The group focuses on synthetic biology and molecular biomimetics for materials and systems.
The postdoctoral researcher will be working in the Living Factories project. The key focus of the project is to develop synthetic biology solutions that enable industrial processes that are energy and carbon efficient. The researcher will be responsible for a sub-project to develop molecular tools for studying metabolism in engineered bacteria. A successful candidate has a solid background in techniques of biochemistry and molecular biology with a strong interest in synthetic biology and a desire to work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment.
