Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medicinal Chemistry at Kent State University. The Professor Hanbin Mao research group in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Kent State University, Ohio, USA is seeking to hire a medicinal chemistry postdoctoral fellow.
Tasks / Responsibilities – The role of the fellow is to
- integrate biochemical, organic chemical, and medicinal chemical principles;
- design and synthesis of novel bioactive compounds that support the basic biology and drug discovery research efforts in the area of the DNA structures.
- design and selection of target compounds; planning organic synthesis; preparation, purification and characterization of new compounds;
- analysis and interpretation of data related to the project; utilization of SAR, hit-to-lead design and validation, structure-based design of small molecules;
- documentation of all experiments in notebooks including written, publication quality, experimental procedures;
- participation in group meetings; supervising graduate students and technicians in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry.
- The position will allow the candidate to working closely with biochemists and biophysicists; develop valuable skills and experience in chemical probes, early drug discovery and chemical biology in a highly collaborative research environment. Finally, the scientist will also write manuscripts and grants.
Job Qualifications Requirements
A PhD with strong skills in both synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
Essentials: The candidate should have demonstrated experience in the design of target compounds as well as corresponding synthetic pathways; synthesis, purification, and analysis of complex bioactive organic molecules; multi-step synthetic processes and larger, multi-gram reaction scale-up. Other skills include analysis and interpretation of data; safe handling of reactive and air-sensitive materials; excellent reaction trouble shooting; and effective written and oral communication skills in English.
Education: PhD in medicinal chemistry or synthetic organic chemistry with above 3 years of post-doctoral experiences in medicinal chemistry. Independent principal investigator experience is preferred but not necessary.
