Postdoc position in University of Edinburgh; Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom: A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated scientist to carry out a research project aiming to understand the importance of RNA in the commitment of pluripotent stem cells to vascular cells. Laboratory skills required include experience in RNA biology, stem cell biology or in vitro mechanistic studies in the vascular setting.
To contribute to the management and publishing of research in line with the objectives defined the project description and with the overall objectives of the BHF Centre for Regenerative Medicine, with focus on the application of pluripotent pluripotent stem cell biology, the role of non-coding RNA in differentiation and directed differentiation to vascular and related lineages

Minimum Requirements: Appropriate degree, with relevant post-graduate research experience and accumulated knowledge. Normally a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience in the field of stem cell biology, RNA biology or vascular biology/therapy. Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing and with appropriate IT and interpersonal skills. Experience in relevant approaches and models, analytical techniques and methods (includes practical lab work, data manipulations and subsequent dissemination of research in form of publication)

Preferred Requirements: Experience in bioinformatics

Main Responsibilities

1. Contribute as a key member of a team of researchers, in the field of pluripotent stem cell biology in relation to vascular regeneration, and to support strategic research planning, design, implementation and management of projects or parts of projects, in conjunction with line manager, PI and collaborators as appropriate.

2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and manage data handling and interpretation of research results to document the research progress. Take a lead role in writing up data for publication. Present data at group meetings, section meetings, and conferences to make data available for other workers. Regular reporting of progress to the PI/other members of the research team is expected. Presentation of research findings at national and international level.

3. Contribute to the dissemination and publication of own and the team’s research findings and contribute to the preparation of research proposals and applications to external funding bodies based on a line of future research.

4. To continually update knowledge and understanding in the field or specialism, and update skill base within the defined research area

5. To provide guidance and supervision for student projects and/or instruction of students in the use of equipment/demonstration of techniques
