Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
The XPDF (I15-1) Beamline at Diamond is the first dedicated X-ray Pair Distribution Function instrument of its kind in Europe. This beamline performs experiments to study the local structure of materials from a vast range of scientific fields such as catalysis, energy materials, and pharmaceuticals. The beamline is in the process of a major upgrade which will see the installation of a high-throughput robotic sample changer, upgraded end-station and bespoke detector.
