The Department of Chemistry at the University of Montreal is one of the largest in Canada. Its international reputation is based on the quality of its research activities, faculty and infrastructure. The manager of the Regional Centre for High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy oversees the daily operations related to the research and teaching activities of the NMR laboratory. The facility is equipped with both liquid and solid state spectrometers.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain the organization of the laboratory, including routine and preventive maintenance, as well as conduct repairs when needed.
  2. Act as a resource in NMR for the Chemistry Department and be available to researchers to assist them with NMR related problems, analyses and design of complex experiments.
  3. Maintain up-to-date in NMR technology and provide training to researchers and technicians using new techniques.
  4. Maintain a state-of-the-art NMR facility and collaborate with researchers in grant applications to renew the equipment.
  5. Provide training to students and researchers in the latest advanced NMR experiments.
  6. Collaborate on research projects.
  7. Determine priorities and goals of the NMR team, as well as coordinate their work while establishing the protocols.
  8. Be responsible for the purchase of products and equipment as well as billing for services.
  9. Participate in conferences and workshops and visit manufacturers.

Qualifications

  1. PhD in chemistry, or a relevant field with specialization in NMR;
  2. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Chemistry with specialization in NMR;
  3. Knowledge of scientific software (TopSpin, Excel, Acrobat, etc.)
  4. Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, Irix)
  5. Thorough knowledge of spectrometers (hardware) and basic knowledge of electronics;
  6. Good knowledge of spoken and written, French and English;
  7. Knowledge of health standards / safety with NMR instrumentation.
